On the evening of Dec. 10, 2021, a catastrophic EF4 tornado claimed the lives of 74 people in Western Kentucky. Six months after the disaster, Dr. Rebecca Freihaut partnered with UK Libraries Louie B. Nunn Center for Oral History to speak with Mayfield, Kentucky residents about their experiences.
Last week, students passing through William T. Young Library stopped to contribute a few brushstrokes to a paint-by-number mural depicting the library on a lovely fall day. A timelapse video recorded by the Student Media Depot shows the scene coming slowly to life, one block of color at a time.

UK Archivist Matthew Strandmark’s new biography of the colorful and controversial Kentuckian Louis Gatewood Galbraith was released Nov. 7 by the University Press of Kentucky. Gatewood: Kentucky’s Uncommon Man provides a comprehensive overview of the life and career of a political activist decades ahead of his time.
UK Libraries’ Affordable Course Content Librarian Stephen Krueger is the co-editor of a book published this summer by Library Juice Press entitled Trans and Gender Diverse Voices in Libraries. Composed of a wide variety of first-hand accounts, the book details the lived experiences of trans and gender diverse people currently or formerly involved in the library profession.
In celebration of International Open Access Week, UK Libraries hosted a free, drop-in event on Wednesday, Oct. 25 showcasing open access resources that can help users discover research data, reduce costs for class materials, and share scholarship and research outputs with global audiences.

UK Libraries has partnered with Hispanic Studies Professor Haralambos Symeonidis to digitize the Atlas Lingüístico Guaraní-Románico, a linguistic atlas that maps the speakers and the linguistic features of Guaraní, an indigenous language used in Paraguay, Northeast Argentina, and Brazil.
