Borrowing from UK Libraries

Once you’ve found the item you want to borrow, take it to the Circulation Desk for check out. Be prepared to present your UK WildCard ID or current UK library card. Distance Learning students can request a library card using this form.

If you don’t have either of these cards, you may still be eligible to get a UK library card. Visit  the Borrowing section of our Collections Use Policies page to learn more.

Renewing Borrowed Items

You can renew your books and other materials online using InfoKat Discovery. Here's how:

  • sign in using either your linkblue credentials (UK borrowers) or your library card barcode as your username (non-UK borrowers),
  • select My Library Account, and
  • open "Loans" to renew all or individual items.

You may also renew materials in person at most campus library facilities.

If you do not have your password, you can reset it online, at any library, or by calling (859) 218-1881.

Loans Periods, Item Limits, and Policies

Loan periods, item limits, and policies may vary depending on the borrower and which UK Library holds the material on loan.

For most items, check-out times and renewals are determined by the total number of days of the original checkout and renewals allowed.

  • Non-UK borrowers have 84 days total
  • UK Undergraduate Students have 126 days total
  • UK Graduate Students have 270 days total
  • UK Faculty/Staff have 600 days total

Need the item longer? If you still need an item after your last renewal, bring the book back to the library, and we will check the item back out to you as long as it has not been requested by someone else.

Returning Library Materials

Borrowers are able to return loans to any campus library during regular hours of operation at the Circulation Desk or in a book drop box (where applicable).

After hours drop boxes are available at the following locations:
