Both the Margaret I. King Library and the lower level of the William T. Young Library will be closed for renovations beginning May 11, 2026.

We look forward to providing updated spaces and services for our campus and community users and appreciate your patience as we work to relocate library resources and services while renovations are in progress.

King Library Renovations

A multi-year renovation of the Margaret I. King Library building will begin Fall 2026. The project will affect access to services at both the Special Collections Research Center and the King Library Annex. To prepare for this project, the facility was closed to the public at the end of the Spring 2026 semester and will remain closed for the duration of the renovation. For more information on service impacts, see our King Library Renovation update.

Little Fine Arts & Design Library

Study rooms at the Fine Arts & Design Library will be used to support interim operations for King Library and unavailable for reservation while renovations are in progress.

Young Library Renovations

Lower Level: The basement level of Young Library will undergo renovations throughout the 2026-27 academic year. With the exception of the GIS Labs, the Young Library basement will be closed to the public for the duration of the renovation.

Roof Replacement: Work that began in May to replace part of the Young Library roof is estimated to be complete in mid-September 2026. With multiple construction projects occurring simultaneously, increased noise throughout the building is unavoidable. There may also be occasional odors that permeate through the HVAC system. We are working closely with the campus Facilities team to minimize disruptions where possible.

Service Impacts: Additional information on affected services and access points is provided below. We’ll continue to update this page as information about the project becomes available.

  • Parking & Entry

    • Construction equipment and fencing has been removed from the Young Library entrances, but the roof project may continue to impact parking in some of the surrounding lots until construction is complete in mid-September.

  • Study, Meeting, & Classroom Spaces

    • Reservations for basement meeting and event spaces are discontinued while construction is in progress.

    • Young Library balconies will be closed while the roof is under construction.

    • Basement computer classrooms (B-23, B-25, and B-35) are closed and will not return to Young Library.

    • Open study room 5-35 will be used as an active work space to sort and integrate materials from King Library into the Young Library collection.

  • Student Support Services

    • The Writing Center is online only for Summer 2026. View hours.

    • The Tech Help Desk is now operating out of the Gatton Student Center.

    • The Media Depot is now operating out of McVey 340

    • Integrated Success Coaching will be offered online and in-person at Jewell Hall and Patterson Hall for the 2026-27 academic year.
