The Margaret I. King Library is closed for a multi-year renovation project.
Named after UK's first librarian, the Margaret I. King Library opened in 1931 and was expanded in 1962 with the addition of what is currently known as the King Library Annex. The facility served as the university's main campus library until the William T. Young Library opened in 1998. Over the last 25 years, the library has been home to the Special Collections Research Center, our Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics print collections, The Gwen Curtis Map Collection, and more recently The Stacks Digital Scholarship Center. The SCRC is home to UK Libraries' collection of rare books, Kentuckiana, the Archives, the Louie B. Nunn Center for Oral History, the King Library Press, the Bert T. Combs Appalachian Collection, the John G. Heyburn II Initiative for Excellence in the Federal Judiciary, and the Wendell H. Ford Public Policy Research Center.
The King Library Annex is home to the largest research map collection in Kentucky and The Stacks: Digital Scholarship Center, a unique space with specialized equipment, resources, and events dedicated to digital and data-intensive scholarship.
