General Collections

UK Libraries supports teaching and research across the sciences and engineering by providing access to print collections, databases, and other electronic resources, including:

• E-books and general and specialized journals
• Major bibliographical and reference sources
• Government agency and other organizational resources
• Indexing and abstracting tools

These resources are primarily housed in the Science & Engineering Library, with the exception of biology and agriculture materials, which are held by William T. Young Library.

Special Collections in the Sciences & Engineering

We also provide access to rare and unique collections to support research across the sciences and engineering, including:

• Agriculture Special Collections including field and laboratory negatives from the UK Agricultural Experiment Station
• Engineering Special Collections including the papers of Margaret Ingels, the first woman in the United States to receive a graduate degree in engineering, and a pioneer in the air conditioning industry
• Earth & Environmental Sciences Special Collections including the Red River Gorge Collection, 1958-1978, documenting the struggle over the damming of the Gorge
• The Gwen Curtis Map Collection contains over 250,000 paper maps and aerial photos. It is located on the Fourth Floor of the Science & Engineering Library along with the GIS Lab
