If your brain is supercoiled like 3 billion base pairs of deoxyribonucleic acid, or anchored like a caisson foundation – and you start to run hot when pondering the Riemann Hypothesis – then pull on your safety goggles and light those Bunsen burners, because we have a beaker of STEM resources to boil.

While the Science & Engineering Library undergoes renovations, many of its physical collections have been moved to William T. Young Library.

To assist science, tech, engineering, and math-minded Cats everywhere, we surveyed our STEM Team for their insights into the most useful and notable electronic resources across all of the STEM disciplines.

Made up of subject-specific information experts, the STEM Team can provide advice and materials for any STEM project or assignment and offer resources and guidance at every stage of the research process.

With teams available for all subjects and disciplines, no matter what you’re looking for, our librarians can help you:

  • Develop research topics and hone research questions
  • Select databases, materials, and resources and navigate the research process
  • Conduct literature reviews and perform advanced searches
  • Share your research and communicate your findings

Schedule an appointment for a one-on-one consultation to get help for your research, project, or assignment.

And now, from multivariate statistical analysis to auxins, cytokinins, and gibberellins signaling, our cream of the crop for STEM resources:

All Disciplines

  • Web of Science: The world's leading citation database, indexing thousands of high-quality scholarly journals, books, book series, and conferences resulting in millions of searchable citation records.

Biology

  • BIOSIS Citation Index: An expansive index to life sciences and biomedical research covering pre-clinical and experimental research, methods and instrumentation, animal studies, and more. Select the resource from the drop-down menu at the top of the Web of Science search box.
  • CAB Abstracts (CABI) with Full Text: Agricultural and applied life sciences journals, books, proceedings, monographs, and technical reports, with emphasis on agronomy, forestry, public health, environmental issues, and the management of natural resources.

College of Agriculture, Food, & Environment

  • Agricola: Citations and abstracts of materials acquired by the National Agricultural Library and cooperating institutions in the agricultural and related sciences. Ninety percent of the records describe journal articles and book chapters, and the remaining ten percent describe monographs, series, microforms, audiovisuals, maps, theses, patents, software, and technical reports.
  • CAB Abstracts (CABI) with Full Text: See Biology, above.

Chemistry

  • SciFinder-n: Online access to Chemical Abstracts Service, an index of approximately 8,000 journals, technical reports, dissertations, conference proceedings, and books, including indexes of disclosures and structures of compounds in recently published works. First-time users must register to use this resource.

Earth & Environmental Science

  • GeoRef: Contains over 3 million citations to geoscience journal articles, books, maps, conference papers, reports, and theses. The most comprehensive bibliographic database in the geosciences, it continues to grow by more than 100,000 references a year.

Engineering

  • Compendex: The most comprehensive bibliographic database of scientific and technical engineering research available, covering all engineering disciplines. It includes millions of citations and abstracts from thousands of engineering journals and conference proceedings.
  • Engineering Index: Search citations in areas such as civil, earthquake, environmental, mechanical, transportation engineering, education, theoretical mechanics and dynamics, mathematics/computation, design, construction, and latest technological developments.

Mathematics

  • MathSciNet (AMS): Covers worldwide mathematical literature by providing bibliographic data and reviews of research contained in the Mathematical Reviews Database. Includes indexing for journals, conference proceedings, and books of mathematics research, with approximately 1800 current serials and journals reviewed.
  • Project Euclid: An online platform for independent and small publishers in the fields of  theoretical and applied mathematics and statistics.

Physics & Astronomy

  • ArXiv: A free distribution service and an open-access archive for more than 3.2 million scholarly articles in the fields of physics, mathematics, computer science, quantitative biology, quantitative finance, statistics, electrical engineering and systems science, and economics.

Statistics

  • Journal of the American Statistical Association: A quarterly peer-reviewed scientific journal primarily focused on the application of statistics, statistical theory, and methods in economic, social, physical, engineering, and health sciences.
