The editorial board of portal: Libraries and the Academy has named “A Comprehensive Study of Library-Led Textbook Affordability Initiatives in the United States,” by Mitchell Scott, Coordinator of Collections Strategies at UK Libraries and Rachel Scott, Illinois State University Libraries, as the recipient of the Johns Hopkins University Press Award for the best article published in the journal during 2025.
The article addresses the role that libraries play in the relief of student financial pressures created by expensive textbook requirements.
An editorial board member shared, “This article is so thorough and thoughtfully done, as well as being of practical use. Librarians don’t get enough chances to discuss in detail how we conduct regular operations, and this article helps us learn about each other’s work.”
Another board member praised the article as a “meticulous exploration of a timely, relevant, and impactful subject.”
