Carol Street, Undergraduate Research Archivist in our Special Collections Research Center, was a guest speaker on the “Hoosier History Live '' radio program (WIICR-Indianapolis) to discuss the architecture of Edward Pierre.
“I loved spending an hour talking about my favorite Indiana architect, Edward Pierre, who designed the Indiana State Library building, among other Indianapolis gems. Of the library, he later wrote that he felt the need to genuflect every time he walked in the building. It’s such an extraordinary temple to learning that I feel the same way, too,” shared Street.
Aired live on Saturday, January 7, the Hoosier History radio show episode, “Who Inspired Holiday Decorations on Monument Circle? An Influential Architect,” featured two guest speakers, author Lisa Hendrickson, Edward’s granddaughter and UK Libraries’ faculty member, Carol Street. This episode highlighted Edward Pierre, well-known architect who designed many well-known buildings and residences in Indianapolis and the state of Indiana, including the Indiana State Library, and the “Bathtub House” on N. Washington Boulevard in Indianapolis.
Hosted by author and historian Nelson Price, Hoosier History Live is a live weekly radio adventure through Indiana history. It is run by a consortium of Central Indiana journalists, historians, event planners, marketers, editors, and artists.
