We can provide reproductions of articles from journals, portions of books, conference proceedings, or excerpts from anthologies, including those held in non-circulating reference collections and copies from non-print resources.
To request reproductions, fill out the Article Express Form located under the New Requests dropdown menu on the ILLiad Main Menu. Please include complete bibliographic information for your requested material.
Reproductions will be delivered electronically to your online ILLiad account. You can find them by selecting Electronically Received Articles from the ILLiad Main Menu.
If you would like a reproduction of a journal article or book chapter from an item in Storage, place a request using the Storage Article Express Form, located under the New Requests dropdown menu on the ILLiad Main Menu. Please include complete bibliographic information for your requested material. These reproductions will be delivered digitally, and you can find them under the Electronically Received Articles tab on the ILLiad Main Menu.
There are no costs associated with document reproduction requests.
For items under copyright protections, we are limited to copying 10% or one chapter from a book, and one article per journal issue. We reserve the right to refuse any orders we believe would violate copyright law.
We will not provide reproductions of material that is already available in full-text online. And we are not able to provide reproductions from the Special Collections Research Center or the Law Library. To request digital scans of SCRC materials, please visit our Conducting Research at the SCRC page.
Additionally, links to ILLiad are available via most databases through the View Now UK button, allowing you to make requests for items as you browse. If you come across an item to which UK Libraries does not have access, click “Request for Interlibrary Loan” and the appropriate request form will autofill.
Lending libraries require that all requests be verified, so please be sure to provide your source of citation on your request form. Global library catalogs such as WorldCat and the Center for Research Libraries Online Catalog can be used to verify the location of requested materials and expedite the ILL process.
UK libraries will absorb up to $40 for acquiring loaned materials or reproductions. If the cost exceeds $40, the ILL staff will contact you to see if you are willing to absorb the extra cost. Rush service may often generate extra costs from the supplying library.
Users who keep material extremely overdue will be charged a $20 non-refundable fee. Users will also be held responsible for any fees incurred by the supplying library while borrowed material is in their possession, including overdue fines and charges for damaged or lost items.
You will be notified by email when your requested materials have arrived. Through your ILLiad account, you may designate any of our library locations as your preferred pickup site, and pick up and return materials during their regular hours of service. If hours of service are limited at the pickup site, returns may be made to the Young Library Circulation Desk.
An item that has been restricted to “library use only” will generally be available only in Young Library. You may use the item as many times as you wish during the duration of the loan. After each use, please return the item to the library’s service desk. You may request that the item be kept on the pickup shelf for later use and not returned to the lending library.
Please do not remove the blue band around the cover of the book, as the information on the band is essential for clearing your transaction.
Renewals are granted at the discretion of the lending library and are not routinely given, so please make reading your interlibrary loan material a priority. If a renewal is necessary, you may submit an electronic renewal request using ILLiad or by contacting the ILL Office. An additional two weeks will be requested. If the institution does not grant the renewal, the item must be returned immediately. Only one renewal may be requested per item.
Those patrons not associated with UK must contact their local library's Interlibrary Loan service to acquire material from UK Libraries. Requests should be submitted to the W.T. Young Library Interlibrary Loan Lending Service.
