The Education Library houses a carefully curated children’s and juvenile literature collection, an extensive academic collection, K-12 textbooks, workbooks, and lesson planning materials, and a makerspace with craft materials and equipment to support the needs of student teachers as well as those preparing to work with children in roles as counselors, therapists, and psychologists.

Academic Collection

The Education Library holds print and online materials supporting undergraduate and graduate study in the College of Education, with titles touching on subjects across the educational spectrum from policy and school counseling to curriculum and teacher development. Much of this collection is available from anywhere online in e-book format through our library catalog, InfoKat Discovery.

Butler Education Studio

The Butler Education Studio, located in the Education Library, is a makerspace that provides resources to all UK Libraries users, including free paper and craft materials, laminators, Cricut and AccuCut machines, and a button maker. The Education Library is also equipped with a 3D printer.

The Butler Education Studio supplies materials and equipment for students to create classroom materials such as gameboards, sight word cards, and tactile books for the visually impaired. For students in educational or school psychology, the Butler Studio offers access to kits that include recording equipment, stress balls, tissues, clipboards, and puppets. There are also several hands-on STEM kits to check out for use in K-6 classroom settings.

Curriculum Collection

The Curriculum Collection plays a vital role in supporting instructional programs and preparing early childhood, elementary, and secondary school teachers, psychologists, and counselors. It offers a wealth of instructional materials to enhance teaching and learning, including thematic units, activity guides, lesson planning and assessment resources, leveled readers, and K-12 textbooks in all core subjects and some elective areas.

The Curriculum Collection also provides access to practical guides on effective, research-based strategies for student engagement, differentiation, guided reading, special education, English Learner services, classroom management, and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and Response to Intervention (RTI) practices.

Juvenile Collection

Our Juvenile Collection contains a representative selection of contemporary and award-winning children’s and young adult books typically found in an elementary or secondary school library.

Strengths of the collection include a thoughtfully selected array of materials that focus on identity, social development, and personhood, and feature characters from under-represented groups. Use our labeling system to find books on a particular topic, social issue, or genre. We also boast a substantial collection of titles that support teaching social-emotional learning (SEL) skills, with materials for children, teachers, counselors, and other school-based practitioners.
