Applications Now Open for the David Mudry Memorial Scholarship

UK Libraries is proud to honor the memory of David Mudry ‘18 through the David Mudry Memorial Scholarship Award. The scholarship is a one-time $1,000 award to help offset the cost of books and course materials for students with unmet financial need. Applications for the scholarship are available online and are due Nov. 8.

Riding Along with the Nurse-Midwives: Discovering Appalachia Through the Frontier Nursing Service

The Frontier Nursing Service Oral History Project is a treasure trove of local Appalachian historical, cultural, economic, and social knowledge that is invaluable to students, researchers, and Kentuckians across the Commonwealth. The history of the Frontier Nursing Service is documented through 212 oral history interviews, conducted largely in the late 1970s, that feature the stories of doctors, nurses, and the Eastern Kentucky residents that they served.

UK Oral History Project Documenting Climate Change & Empowering Kentuckians

UK's Kentucky Climate Consortium research team is partnering with the Louie B. Nunn Center for Oral History to create an oral history project entitled, “Climate Research, Policy, and Activism in Kentucky.” The project will document the work done by Kentucky communities to raise awareness about climate change and to encourage small- and large-scale efforts to reduce the state’s carbon footprint.

Local History Shines in the Kentucky American Water Collection

This summer, Kentucky American Water donated its considerable collection of company papers and artifacts to UK Libraries. The collection documents the growth of water services across Lexington and Central Kentucky and is rich in local economic and social history.
