Course Reserves

Course reserves may consist of materials owned by the library, such as books or journals, or personal materials owned by the instructor, including photocopies, lecture notes, and online resources or digital files.

Place Materials on Reserve

We accept requests for both physical reserves and electronic reserves. To place material on reserve, whether you are beginning a new list or adding to an existing list, please fill out the Course Reserves Request Form

Please note, requests are:

  • Processed in the order they are received
  • May be subject to deadlines to ensure availability during high-volume request periods
  • Accepted any time during the semester

For help with special orders, contact your librarian by subject. Reserved materials may require copyright permission.

Promote equity in access to higher education by adopting open educational resources in your classes.

Open Educational Resources

Affordability is a leading barrier to equitable access to higher education. UK Libraries is improving accessibility and reducing students’ financial burden by helping instructors adopt, adapt, and create free alternatives to costly traditional textbooks.

Open Access Materials

Open access (OA) materials such as articles and books are digital, online, free of charge, and free of most copyright and licensing restrictions. Open access publishing makes research findings accessible to a global audience by removing price and permission barriers. Find materials in our Open Educational Resources Library Guide

Adopt or Create Open Educational Resources

The Open Educational Resources (OER) Grant Program encourages the adoption and creation of OER for use in UK courses. Formerly known as the Alternative Textbook Grant Program, the initiative has impacted thousands of students since its launch in 2016 by leveraging just over $100,000 in grant funds into over $1.5 million in student savings.

The 2024-25 grant cycle will welcome a vastly expanded range of project types and sizes, and grantees will receive tailored project support throughout the duration of their project from our Affordable Course Content Librarian.

For in-depth information on the application process, please visit our Call for Proposals page.

Scholarship Opportunities

The David Mudry Memorial Scholarship is a one-time $1,000 award to help offset the cost of books and course materials for students with unmet financial need. Visit our Research Awards & Grants page for more information.
