Research Guides Philosophy, Psychology, Religious Studies,
Description:
Contains descriptions of many techniques that psychologists and others have developed to help them pursue a shared understanding of why humans think, feel, and behave the way they do. Addresses (a) what data or measurement techniques will best capture the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that interest you; (b) what research design best fits the question that you want to answer; and (c) what strategies for data analysis best match the characteristics of your design and measurements. This volume focuses on the broadest questions related to research designs. These involve both (a) which research designs are most appropriate for which question and (b) how to think about the ethicality and feasibility of the designs that address your question and the measures available to you. It also describes the types of data that psychologists most often collect and how to determine whether the measurement techniques that you might choose are the best ones for your purpose.

Research Guides Psychology,
Description:
Descriptions of many techniques that psychologists and others have developed to help them pursue a shared understanding of why humans think, feel, and behave the way they do. Includes interpretive research designs that emphasize a qualitative approach; introduces designs that emphasize an etic (or theory-specified), more quantitative approach to research as well as designs that focus on theory-testing questions, rely heavily on quantification, and are used to study change in individual units. The volume concludes with coverage of “Neuropsychology” and “Biological Psychology,” in discussions of designs for theory-driven research that derive largely from the more biological end of psychology’s family tree.

Description:
Full-text resource of 2,000 works. Coverage ranges from classic works of French literature to various kinds of non-fiction prose and technical writing. Includes text collections in French, English & Italian; guides and bibliographies; and dictionaries and other ref. works, including Diderot. The eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries are about equally represented, with a smaller selection of seventeenth century texts as well as some medieval and Renaissance texts. A Provençal poetry database was recently (2004) added that includes 38 texts in their original spellings. Genres include novels, verse, theatre, journalism, essays, correspondence, and treatises. Subjects include literary criticism, biology, history, economics, and philosophy. Other texts include French Women Writers and pamphlets and periodicals from the French Revolution of 1848. In most cases standard scholarly editions were used in converting the text into machine-readable form, and the data contain page references to these editions. A cooperative enterprise of Analyse et Traitement Informatique de la Langue Française (ATILF) of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), the Division of the Humanities, the Division of the Social Sciences, and Electronic Text Services (ETS) of the University of Chicago.
