Scopus

Description:

Scopus is an abstracting and citation database of peer-reviewed literature with tools to track and analyze and research. It contains over 22,000 titles from more than 5,000 publishers around the world, covering the fields of science, technology, medicine, social sciences, and arts & humanities. Scopus has 55 million records dating back to 1823, 84% of which contain references dating from 1996.

Scopus is a citation index. This makes it easy to move forward and backwards chronologically in the research trail because you can easily see the papers cited by an article as well as the articles that go on to cite the article later. Citation indexes also help in determining the impact of articles and journals by highlighting which titles are most cited within a field. Use the cited reference search to track prior research and monitor current developments in over 100 years worth of content, including 59 million records that includes backfiles dating back to 1898.

Scopus also makes the free service CiteScore available. CiteScore metrics measure serial citation impact.

Note that Compendex links its search results to Scopus to indicated where the search results are cited.

UK Libraries also subscribes to Web of Science, another multidisciplinary citation index. If you are searching in Scopus, you may want to look at Web of Science as well since it will likely contain unique material.
