Full-text electronic books (eBooks). Search over 45,000 eBooks, including publications from all of the major university presses.  Links to individual books in the eBook Collection are available through InfoKat, the library system's online catalog.

Please note:

Your EBSCOhost session will time out after 15 minutes of inactivity.

eBooks that are being viewed online can be “closed” and immediately made available to other users simply by clicking the Result List, New Search, Back, or Exit links in the eBook Viewer.

Limited printing is available; many books can also be downloaded (downloading requires registration and is limited by availability of the title). See the usage note below or eBooks Support for more information.

Checking in an Ebook

Downloaded eBooks can be checked-in before the end of the checkout period using Adobe Digital Editions.

Audiobooks cannot be checked-in before the end of the checkout period at this time. Audiobooks files can be transferred to various devices throughout the duration of the checkout period, and there is no way to ensure that the file is removed from these devices before it ends.

To check-in an eBook before the checkout period had expired (using Adobe Digital Editions):

  1. Open Adobe Digital Editions on your computer.
  2. On the Library View screen of Adobe Digital Editions, hold your pointer over the eBook you would like to check-in and click the arrow in the top left corner.
  3. Click Return Borrowed Item.
  4. Click the Return button to confirm you would like to return the eBook.
  5. The eBook is checked in and removed from your Library View screen and is available to other patrons.

For users who have upgraded to Adobe Digital Editions 2.0

To check-in an eBook before the checkout period had expired:

  1. Open Adobe Digital Editions on your computer.
  2. On the Bookshelfs screen of Adobe Digital Editions, right-click the cover of the eBook you would like to check-in and select Return Borrowed Item.
  3. Click the Return button to confirm you would like to return the eBook.
  4. The eBook is checked in and removed from your Bookshelves view screen and is available to other patrons.

You will need to use your UK linkblue email to receive the code required for this app.

Click the EBSCOhost iPhone and Android Applications link at the bottom of the page and enter an email address which you can access from your device. An email with an authentication key will be sent to you.

Users can now download eBooks in all eBook formats via mobile devices with the new Mobile 2.0 interface. Mobile users can also view checkouts in the folder, create and view holds, and view downloads via the Bluefire app. See more at Mobile 2.0 interface.

Special usage notes:

To check-out and download an eBook:

  1. Click the Download (Offline) link for the eBook you would like to download.

  2. Select the Checkout period (7 days) from the drop-down menu and click the Checkout & Download button.

    The eBook will be added to the Checkouts area of the folder. If you are not logged into your My EBSCOhost folder, you will be prompted to do so.

  3. How to View EBSCO eBooks on Your Computer through the Web-Based Interface
    • Download an EBSCO eBook title by clicking on the “Download” link on the search result page or from within the detailed record
    • Select your preferred checkout period and click “Checkout & Download”
    • eBook is downloaded and viewable via Adobe® Digital Editions* on your computer.

  4. How to Download EBSCO eBooks to Portable Devices
    • Download an eBook EBSCO title by clicking on the “Download” link on the search result page or from within the detailed record
    • Select your preferred checkout period and click “Checkout & Download”
    • Drag and drop the title icon to your portable device
    • Read your eBook on your portable device*

    *In order for a portable device to be used with EBSCO eBooks, it must be compatible with Adobe® Digital Editions. For example, see the iPad YouTube video instructions or the Android device bluefire instructions.

To "Close" an eBook so that it is available to others:

  • In the top right corner, use Exit OR
  • In the top left corner, use <<Back
  • In the top left corner, use New Search

Clicking "Detailed Record" or "Return to Search" if you are on the detailed record page does not actually close the book. If the book is left idle for 30 minutes, it will time out on its own, but using one of the above methods eliminates any delay for other users.

Downloading eBooks on EBSCOhost to iPad/Kindle Fire
eBooks on EBSCOhost are downloadable to both the iPad and Kindle Fire via the Bluefire app.

iPad users can download the Bluefire app from the iTunes app store—just search for "Bluefire reader." For details, watch this short video tutorial.
Kindle Fire users can download Bluefire Reader via the Bluefire Blog.
(Users with dedicated Kindle eBook readers may transfer chapters to those devices by saving them as PDF files.)

Mac users please note: If you have trouble reading full-text PDFs, you can install a plug-in that will allow you to read the full-text. This resource, however, does NOT support Safari. The plug-in does work with FireFox, however.

Instructions for Installing the Schubert PDF Browser Plug-in on a Macintosh Computer:
1. Direct your web browser to <http://www.schubert-it.com/>.
2. Click on the Downloads Link at the top of the page.
3. Choose the appropriate PDF Browser Plug-in.
4. Install the plug-in in the Library/Internet Plug-ins Folder.
5. Restart your browser.


When a DjVu plug-in is required on any type of machine: The DjVu plug-in may be required. You can install that plug-in using the eBook link or use this alternative link on a personal machine; the DjVu plug-in is not supported on the Libraries' computers.


If a new PDF opens each time you turn the page of an eBook in the eBook viewer in EBSCOhost, this can be corrected by changing a setting in Adobe Reader. To ensure eBooks are displayed in the eBook viewer in the browser window:
 
1.    Launch Adobe Reader.
2.    Click the Edit menu in the toolbar at the top of Adobe Reader.
3.    Select Preferences from the drop-down list of options.
4.    Select Internet in the left-column of the resulting menu.
5.    Mark the check box Display PDF in browser.
6.    Click OK.
