Based on U.S. Census categories, data in all sections of Ancestry & Ethnicity in America is displayed in the following sequence:

  • Ancestry: 106 groups and subgroups from Afghan to Zimbabwean
  • Hispanic Origin: 25 groups and subgroups by country and region
  • Race: 5 major groups—African American/Black; American Indian/Alaska Native; Asian; Hawaii Native/Pacific Islander; White—and 82 subgroups by country, tribe and Hispanic identification

Each state chapter contains a state summary and population profiles for places with population of 7,500 or more. Each profile contains population size & percent of the total population for all 218 groups & subgroups.
