The Agricultural Information Center (AIC) welcomes all reference questions, including requests for help locating information items, even those not owned by the University of Kentucky. We welcome questions about facts and statistics, including how to find them. We are also always willing to provide research guidance for our databases and journal collection. Some typical examples of reference questions include:
How do I access UK Library databases from home?
I need basic information about plant diseases. Do you have a resource that will have this information?
I need newspaper articles about tobacco company lawsuits. Where do I get some?
How do I open a .pdf (Acrobat Reader) file?
I am looking for statistics put out by the USDA. Where can I find them?
The University of Kentucky Library Document Delivery Unit provides a fee based service called Article Express. This service allows UK faculty, staff, and students with permanent or temporary disabilities to obtain articles without actually having to go to the library. For a fee of $.15 per page from a print source and $.25 per page from a microform, a document will be delivered via your ILLiad account.
What kind of reproductions will the service deliver?
Reproductions (excluding material from Special Collections) of articles from journals, portions of books or proceedings including those held in non-circulating reference collections and copies from non-print resources.
How do I make a request for the reproductions?
Article Express Requests (as well as Interlibrary Loan Requests and Storage Article Express Requests) are placed via ILLiad. The article express form is located under the Document Delivery Tab on the ILLiad Main Menu.
How may I pay for the copies provided?
Document Delivery fees are billed to a University Account. The patron must provide the 10-digit University Account Number on each Article Express request in ILLiad. If a patron is eligible for the Article Express service but does not have access to a University Account Number, they may contact Document Delivery for alternative payment options, prior to placing requests.
Book & Media Express
The University of Kentucky Library system offers a book and media delivery service in which any circulating material from one library may be delivered from one campus library to another to be circulated. This service is free and available to all faculty, staff, and students. Requests are limited to 10 items per day. Bound journals and items in special collections are not included.
To request an item:
Search for the item in InfoKat. From the record, click on the "Requests" button from the InfoKat toolbar. You will be asked for you patron log-on information, which will include your library barcode and last name. Choose the Book & Media Express option.
On the next screen, enter your preferred pick-up location from the pull-down menu.
To check if your requested item is available:
Log-on to your Library Account via InfoKat as above. Click on "Request Information." If the item is available, you'll see the message, "Items Available". Items may take up to two business days to arrive at the intended location.
