What would you like your students to be able to do?

Below are some commonly requested instruction topics with the time needed to adequately address each. You may choose the Basic Introduction or choose individual topics. Remember to total the time required to teach each topic.

Basic Introduction to Research Skills (50 minutes)
Combines Introduction to the UK Libraries, InfoKat Basics, Research Strategy Techniques, and Finding Scholarly Articles in Academic Search Complete.

Introduction to the UK Libraries (10 minutes)
How to navigate the Libraries' website and find basic information about services, hours, and collections at all campus libraries.

InfoKat Basics (10 minutes)
Students will learn how to search InfoKat, the Libraries' catalog, for information sources. Whether they are looking for a DVD, microfilm, books or government publications, students will be able to find appropriate resources more quickly after attending this session.

Research Strategy Techniques (10 minutes)
Students will learn how to focus their ideas and determine appropriate search terms in order to find the best resources for their topic of interest. 

Finding Scholarly Articles in Academic Search Complete (20 minutes)
Students will learn how to find reliable, authoritative sources for their research projects in this general interest database. Librarians will introduce your students to scholarly sources and explain how these sources are different from popular sources and when and why they should be used.

Evaluating Information (15 minutes)
What students need to know in order to choose credible information sources.

Locating Business Information (50 minutes)
Looking for corporate 10K reports?  Do you need to put together a marketing plan for a start-up company?  Do you need demographics? Learn about major business and marketing information resources. 

Specific Subject Information Sources (50 minutes)
Do your students know the major resources in your subject discipline? Every discipline has its own information resources, terminology and research methods.  Have your students find out more about yours.

Interlibrary Loan (15 minutes)
How to borrow books and obtain articles from other libraries. WorldCat featured.
