Introduction

Permanent Reserves

Permanent reserves consist of materials that are heavily used or that require special security. These materials are shelved behind the circulation desk in alphabetical order by title. To check out a permanent reserve, you must request it by title from a library assistant at the circulation desk. You must have a valid UK WildCard Student ID or current UK library card to check out reserve materials; no other form of ID will be accepted. The permanent reserve loan period is two hours. Permanent Reserve material can be located in InfoKat, the Libraries’ online catalog, using standard search strategies such as Author, Title or Subject. These materials are not restricted to one course.

Course Reserves

Course reserves are required class materials placed on hold by instructors for students enrolled in their classes. Reserve material may include hard copies, electronic readings, and a variety of other formats. Hard copies are shelved behind the circulation desk in course number order. To check out a course reserve, you must request it by course number and title from a library assistant at the circulation desk. You must have a valid UK WildCard Student ID or current UK library card to check out reserve materials; no other form of ID will be accepted. Loan periods may be 2 hours, 1 day, 3 days, or 7 days, depending on the request of the instructor. Course reserve lists appear in InfoKat, the Libraries’ online catalog, organized by the instructor’s last name or the course number.
