UK Faculty Research Support Guide

Funds to support the programs in this guide flow from the University of Kentucky Research Foundation Inc. (UKRF), a not-for-profit Kentucky corporation established in 1945. UKRF serves as the university's agent in the receipt of all external grants & contracts, intellectual property income and other designated income; oversees the protection, development and commercialization of intellectual properties; and manages special cooperative agreements.

This federal government portal site allows searchers to electronically find and apply for competitive grant opportunities from all federal grant-making agencies. Searching for funding prospects by keyword, funding agency, announcement date or application deadline, among other options.


National Institutes of Health Grants & Funding Opportunities

One of the world's foremost biomedical research centers and the federal focal point for biomedical research in the U.S. This site provides information about funding opportunities available from the NIH.


National Library of Medicine (NLM) Grants & Funding: Extramural Programs

Provides information about the Extramural Programs Division of NLM, the world's largest medical library. Information can be found about the available grants, which are intended to support research and development activities leading to improved use of biomedical knowledge.


National Science Foundation (NSF)

The NSF funds research and education in science and engineering. According to information found at the site, the Foundation accounts for about 20 percent of federal support to academic institutions for basic research.


NN/LM Funding

This National Network of Libraries of Medicine site provides numerous national and regional funding opportunities.


NN/LM Greater Midwest Region Funding

Excellent site for numerous funding opportunities. Annotations and direct links to funding-related sites on the WWW are provided as well as information about available print resources.


Robert Woods Johnson Foundation

Provides information about funding available from the Robert Woods Johnson Foundation, whose mission is to improve the health and healthcare of all Americans.


Rural Health Outreach Grant Program

Provides information about the requirements and guidelines for the Rural Health Outreach Grant Program. The stated objectives for this grant program are "...to expand access to, coordinate, restrain the cost of, and improve the quality of essential health care services, including preventive and emergency services, through the development of integrated health care delivery systems or networks in rural areas and regions."
