The UK Medical Center Library's Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery Office is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. We provide Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery services free of charge to all UK Medical Center faculty, staff, and students. The intent of the service is to fill gaps in the collection and/or obtain items needed for research or patient care. Requests for textbooks, pleasure reading (novels), Genealogy, or recreational DVD movies/music CDs, cannot be obtained through the MCL's ILL services. Please consult your local public library for such items.
Every attempt is made to obtain items as quickly as possible. ILL requests, however, may take up two weeks to obtain. Requests for documents from materials within UK Libraries system are usually filled within 48 hours when submitted before noon, Monday through Friday. Items obtained from libraries outside of the UK Libraries system can take anywhere from a few days up to two weeks, depending on the lender.
RUSH service is available for patient care emergencies.
Charges for individuals not associated with UK requesting materials from the UK Medical Center Library:
Non-UK individuals: Each photocopy of an article mailed to you costs $11.00; each photocopy of an article faxed to you costs $16.00. Each book or video loaned to you costs $11.00. An invoice will follow under separate cover. Please note: An additional charge of $10.00 per article is added to all patient care/rush requests submitted by non-UK individuals.
UK faculty, staff and students use their UK Wildcard as their library card. Persons not affiliated with UK may obtain a library card if they are 18 years of age and present a valid Kentucky driver's license or a valid non-driver ID. Faculty, staff, and students from reciprocal colleges and universities in Kentucky may obtain a UK library card with proper identification. Anyone with a UK library card may check out materials in the Medical Center Library or any UK campus library.
The Medical Center Library sends library notices via e-mail.
If a book, journal, or audiovisual you need is checked out, you may place a hold on it so that when it is returned to the Medical Center Library it will be held at the User Services desk for you. You will be notified when it is available.
Contact Genia Kempster if you have questions about placing a hold on library materials or for any questions related to borrowing library materials.
