The Breckinridge Research Room provides in-person research access to rare books, archival and manuscript collections, public policy collections, Appalachian collections, Kentuckiana, and other materials held at the Special Collections Research Center.
Your Researcher Account
Anyone wishing to use SCRC materials or visit the Breckinridge Research Room must first create a SCRC Researcher Account.
Your Researcher Account allows you to:
Check in to the Breckinridge Research Room for research and study
Whether you visit the Breckinridge Research Room to use SCRC materials or just want a quiet place to study, you will need to register with a Researcher Account. Once your account is set up, we will only need a photo ID to check you in at the BRR.
Use your Researcher Account to request retrieval of SCRC materials so they are ready and waiting for you when you arrive at the BRR. Since many of our collections are stored off-site, we ask that you request materials at least 48 hours in advance to ensure timely retrieval. Same day requests for materials on-site are accepted, but may take a minimum of 10-15 minutes to retrieve, longer delays are possible. We cannot guarantee same-day retrieval for requests made after 4pm.
Place SCRC materials on reserve
Once we retrieve your materials, they can be placed on reserve for you for up to 30 days to ensure quick access each time you visit. You can also use your account to bookmark items for later use.
Can’t visit us in-person? You can use your Researcher Account to request digital scans of materials that are sent directly to your account, absolutely free-of-charge. We can typically guarantee photoduplication of up to one archival box (or 10 folders from multiple boxes) within 2 weeks of your order.
