The Animal Welfare Act Regulations require that a written narrative be provided by the Principle Investigator (PI) to determine whether or not alternatives exist to procedures which may cause pain or distress to animals used for teaching or research. Some of the databases recommended for searching include PubMed, CAB Abstracts, AGRICOLA, BIOSIS, Web of Science among others. Some researchers are required to search multiple databases.
This class will help you choose the right databases, the terms that may be needed to search and the search strategies for each database.
UK faculty, staff and students use their UK Wildcard as their library card. Persons not affiliated with UK may obtain a library card if they are 18 years of age and present a valid Kentucky driver's license or a valid non-driver ID. Faculty, staff, and students from reciprocal colleges and universities in Kentucky may obtain a UK library card with proper identification. Anyone with a UK library card may check out materials in the Medical Center Library or any UK campus library.
The Medical Center Library sends library notices via e-mail.
If a book, journal, or audiovisual you need is checked out, you may place a hold on it so that when it is returned to the Medical Center Library it will be held at the User Services desk for you. You will be notified when it is available.
Contact Genia Kempster if you have questions about placing a hold on library materials or for any questions related to borrowing library materials.
